The Environmental Safety and Risk Management (ESRM) Committee has convened a working group to examine exterior lighting for campus safety and security. The working group is made up of representatives from the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, the Department of Public Safety, the Department of Facilities, Housing and Real Estate Services, the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students, and the Graduate School, as well as other campus partners as needed. Short and long term goals of the working group include:Short TermCreate a central reporting mechanism for the campus community to raise specific areas of concernEvaluate reported concerns and complete corrective actions when indicatedCommunicate to the campus community regarding existing lighting standards and what to expect regarding exterior lighting on campusLong TermAssist with updating the campus lighting master plan using an external vendorEvaluate and expand opportunities for student involvement in campus nighttime safety and security walks, including timing, frequency and campus coverageRecommend and establish long term governance for exterior lighting safety and security issuesIn the interim, members of the campus community can report specific exterior campus lighting concerns here.
