Feb. 1, 2023

Robin Izzo, Executive Vice President of EHS, has made the following announcement to the campus community.

It is with great pleasure that I share good news about Meagan Fitzpatrick, Kelly States, Steve Elwood, and Colt Greer.

Meagan Fitzpatrick

Meagan Fitzpatrick has been named Assistant Director and Biosafety Officer, filling the vacancy and the biological safety responsibilities that Jackie Wagner left upon her retirement on January 21. Meagan joined the EHS staff in 2020 as the inaugural Senior Safety Specialist assigned to the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS). Prior to her move to Princeton, Meagan was the Environmental Health and Safety Manager for Covance Laboratories, after serving five years as Biosafety Officer for Georgia Institute of Technology and six years supporting the biosafety and laboratory safety program at Emory University.

Meagan is the Immediate Past President of the Campus Safety Health and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA). She earned a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry from Loyola University (Maryland) and a Master of Public Health in Environmental Health from Emory University. She will report to Steve Elwood.

Kelly States

Kelly States is now the Director of Campus Safety and Health, in recognition of her leadership of the workplace and occupational safety team and EHS operations. Kelly is celebrating 25 years with Princeton University EHS and recently developed and launched the new Supervising for Safety certificate program, which has gotten rave reviews from participants.

Steve Elwood

Steve Elwood is now Director for Research Safety, in recognition of his leadership of all of the research safety programs, including chemical safety, biological safety, radiation safety, and management of hazardous materials shipping, disposal, etc. Steve has been with Princeton University for 28 years, joining EHS in 2002 after 10 years with Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. Steve will now have direct oversight of all of the laboratory safety programs.

Colt Greer

Colt Greer was promoted to Assistant Director and Radiation Safety Officer following his appointment as the institutional Radiation Safety Officer. Colt joined EHS in 2020 as Senior Program Manager and Assistant Radiation Safety Officer. He continues to report to Steve Elwood, who had served as Radiation Safety Officer since Sue Dupre’s retirement in 2017.
