Jan. 17, 2024 The Princeton University Office of Environmental Health and Safety provides a mandatory Lab Safety Training sequence for Princeton University researchers. The course is composed of both web-based training modules and a final instructor-led training session: Fundamentals of Laboratory Safety (web-based) focusing on core, fundamental concepts of laboratory safety. Consists of five modules and a final test. Laboratory Safety at Princeton University (90min classroom) focusing on Princeton-specific laboratory safety practices and resources. Both are listed under the training topic “Laboratory Safety” in the Employee Learning Center at putrain.learn.com (login required) under the training topic “Laboratory Safety.” Web-based Fundamentals of Laboratory Safety modules must be completed are prior to enrolling in the classroom session. The web training may be completed at any time at the user’s own pace once the researcher obtains a university (CAS) login. The final Laboratory Safety at Princeton University classroom sessions will be offered multiple times per month and should be completed as soon as possible upon arrival to campus or upon transitioning into a laboratory role. Training Records Attendance records for classroom training sessions may take a few days to be logged. Training records will automatically sync to your laboratory’s SHIELD account where they will be visible to your Principal Investigator or lab manager. Records of completion may also be prepared from the Employee Learning Center under the “My Training” tab followed by “My Learning History.” The updated training module was developed in cooperation with the Safety Training Consortium (STC), meaning safety training is now transferable between STC member schools.
