EHS Launches New Lab Coat Program

Jan. 7, 2025

EHS has introduced a new lab coat program, offering automated lab coat services, including inventory, inspection and laundering, to replace the previous system.

The lab coat collection and distribution program will help students and researchers focus on their research by providing a convenient way to maintain clean, safe and properly fitting lab coats for all lab workers.

A Comprehensive Solution

The lab coat collection system offers end-to-end convenience. Users can individually select lab coats using their TigerCard (you must be listed as a lab member in SHIELD). Inventory tracking assures lab coats are always available for distribution. After used garments are returned to the unit, they are pickled up, laundered and individually polybagged to support hygiene, cleanliness and infection control before being restocked.

Cintas has a video detailing how the system works. The video depicts the use of the machine generally; our system will be slightly different and EHS will be creating a video specific to Princeton.

To check out a lab coat:

You must be added as a lab member in SHIELD. EHS will assign the lab coat you need based on the hazards present in your lab.

person getting lab coat from machine
  1. Go to the location on campus closest to your work area to check out a coat using your TigerCard.

Note: users can use any of the machines to obtain/return a lab coat; however, your size/type of coat may not be available at all sites.

  1. Select the “lab coat” button to choose your size and click the green arrow at the bottom right corner of the screen to dispense lab coat.
  2. To return your coat, simply tap your TigerCard and place your lab coat into the hatch after making sure pockets are empty. Close the door and wait until the light turns off.

At this point you will be able to get another coat from any dispenser machine.

Distribution and Collection Sites

The following distribution and collection sites will be maintained on campus. Researchers can bring old lab coats to the collection locations for removal and disposal.
