The Office of Environmental Health and Safety has launched an important update to the laboratory safety training curriculum.
The new course has two parts:
- Fundamentals of Laboratory Safety (web)
- Laboratory Safety at Princeton University (classroom)
Both are listed under Environmental Health and Safety Training in the Employee Learning Center. Fundamentals of Laboratory Safety is to be completed as a prerequisite prior to enrolling in the new, abbreviated classroom session.
The web training, which consistes of five modules and a final test, can be completed at any time and at a user's own pace, as long as it is completed before the in-person training. The Laboratory Safety at Princeton University classroom sessions will be offered multiple times per month in an attempt to streamline the training process.
The updated training module was developed in cooperation with the Safety Training Consortium (STC), an organization made up of multiple colleges and universities including The University of California system, Northwestern, Emory and the University of Pittsburgh, among others, with the goal of creating common curricula shared across the STC membership. This means safety training is now transferable between STC member schools.
