Spills and Releases

Planning, thorough training and quick action help ensure all spills are contained and cleaned up in a manner that causes no increased or potential risk to human health, the environment, and/or property.

Spill the release of any material that results in an increased risk or potential risk to human health, the environment, and/or property. A spill may be contained to an inpervious surface, such as a benchtop, floor or the work surface of a fume hood. A spill may also be considered a release to the environment.

Release - a spill that has not been contained and has entered the environment either directly, or indirectly via a floor drain, storm drainage system, sink or other entry to the sanitary sewer.
